Skeletons Galore

Bones Aplenty

Skeletons Galore is my boneyard of strange creatures — a growing archive where anatomy becomes storytelling and every skeleton feels like it has wandered out of Orkney’s storms and into my sketchbooks. These aren’t medical diagrams or Halloween props. They’re characters built from absence: beings stripped down to their essential shapes, still carrying hints of the lives, instincts, and moods they once had.

I approach skeletons the same way I approach all my haunted‑ink work. The dry‑brush textures, splattered shadows, and carved‑in lines give each creature a sense of motion, even in death. A tilt of a skull becomes personality. A curve in a spine becomes history. The way ribs frame empty space becomes a kind of quiet emotion. Some of these figures are towering mythic beasts, all jagged silhouettes and long, wind‑worn limbs. Others are small, peculiar things — rodents with oversized incisors, delicate‑pawed critters, or odd skeletal sprites that look like they’ve been blown in from the cliffs.

This page is where I gather them all. It’s a place for experiments, for anatomy studies that turn into characters, for creatures that arrive unexpectedly while I’m sketching something else. Every new skeleton adds another thread to the wider BurnsInHell world — a world of storm‑lit realism, stark contrasts, and creatures that feel both eerie and strangely familiar.

Skeletons Galore isn’t a finished archive. It’s a living one. I add to it whenever a new shape reveals itself: a posture I haven’t explored, a skull with a story hidden in its angles, a spine that suggests a creature I’ve never drawn before. This collection grows the same way all my work grows — slowly, intuitively, and always with that haunted, wind‑carved atmosphere that ties everything together.
